Want a public office? How much are you worth? (Dec 08 2003 08:12 GMT) - There is a movement in the parliament to at last address an issue that is important. The "Minbar Islamists" have tabled a motion to force all public officials to declare their worth before they take office, and then audit them when they leave. Excellent. At last something useful. They shouldn't stop at the public official him/herself, that law MUST be extended to audit his direct family as well and raise a red flag whenever that official registers a commercial registration, buys a building, a car or whatever. |

Hotel Hibiscus (Hoteru Haibisukasu) (Dec 08 2003 08:10 GMT) - Film Reviews: One of the finds of the Hawaii fest and of Nippon films of the past year, "Hotel Hibiscus" is a warm breath of fresh air from way down south, on Okinawa. Special Registration For Muslim Visitors Ends in the US, but starts for Foreigners in Bahrain! (Dec 08 2003 08:05 GMT) - Talk about double standards! The big hullabaloo about forced registrations of foreigners in the States riled every single Muslim on the planet, now we have the chairman of the Bahraini Parliament proposing that all foreigners on the island to have them electronically scanned. The excuse he's using is that this process will "ease" their interaction with the government agencies etc. So it's NOT alright for the US to do it, but it's okay for us to? I guess our shit smells a lot rosier than Americans', so it must be okay... |
