A Christmas present experiment [Chris Worth] (Dec 08 2003 17:59 GMT) - I'm trying a little experiment this year. Writing the list of what I need to shop for - all the people, all the presents that'd suit them, as normal - but I'm going to give the presents to the wrong people. The trick will be to make the 'wrong' gifts right in some way, by including a smidgeon of the intended recipients' personality in the 'wrong' choice. For example, my 15-yr old nephew was going to get the Sim City game. My sister, who's not a big computer fan, is getting it instead - because she's a town planner in Cambridge. |

Bug reblog (Dec 08 2003 17:58 GMT) - Michael Moncur has configured his Apache server to return 403 errors to Ximian Evolution RSS requests, which he says comprise "inan effective distributed DOS attack against my site" until, he says, Ximian's programmers pay attention to his bug reports.Betcha this one gets fixed fast.If it does, it'll confirm my belief that the problems here are matters of implementation tweaking rather than of inherent problems with RSS or its purposes. |

Substance Abuse Patients Pay More ... (Dec 08 2003 17:56 GMT) - Substance Abuse Patients Pay More Story at About.com's mental health section - " A survey of 434 managed care plans in 60 market areas found that patients receiving substance abuse and mental health services often had to make a higher copayment or pay a higher share of allowed charges than did patients receiving general medical care. Researchers from Brandeis University found that at least 30 percent of the managed care service providers surveyed imposed higher cost sharing requirements for outpatient substance abuse and mental health treatment than for medical services." |
