So, Can The Internet Age Deliver (Dec 08 2003 20:59 GMT) - What nobody else ever could? Forbes magazine reports on the World Summit on the Information Society, an organization formed under the auspices of the International Telecommunication Union and the United Nations: So what exactly does the WSIS want? According to Paragraph 1 of the Draft Declaration of Principles, it seeks a "commitment to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society, where everyone can create, access, utilize and share information and knowledge." That seems doable, indeed it may have been done already, as the Internet has certainly made a lot of information accessible. |

"Extremists" (Dec 08 2003 20:57 GMT) - Interesting Joe Lieberman profile, but though I understand what the headline writer is talking about when he calls the present day an "extremist era," we're really not in an extremist era at all. Instead, we seem to be in a... |

Check this out! "Who am i, what do i do... we'll just have to wait and see" Hij hoopt een kleine insight te geven in de (muziek)wereld waarin hij zich begeeft, en wie weet waar het naar toe groeit met de tijd. |

Andrew Sullivan's annual pledge drive (Dec 08 2003 20:57 GMT) - In two pledge drives, December of 2002 and June of 2003, Andrew Sullivan received donations from over 6,000 readers. Conservatively estimated at $20 apiece, that means he received over $120,000. So I've bitched about it twice, and I'll bitch about it again. No, it's not that he's getting money for something I get no money for that annoys me. He's a far better writer than I am, with far better insights. |

Happy Happy Joy Joy! (Dec 08 2003 20:56 GMT) - I'm ecstatic. The other day I was looking for a quality online Advent calendar. I looked high and low, but really couldn't find one I liked. I even went to harpold.com to see if she'd made a 2003 version because I loved her 2002 version so much. |

Proxim Beefs Up APs (Dec 08 2003 20:56 GMT) - Proxim introduced today upgrades to its enterprise-grade Orinoco AP-2000 access point: Most of the new features are geared toward making it easier for network administrators to manage their wireless networks. Because the AP includes two slots for multiple radios, customers can now dedicate one radio for repeating traffic. For example, one slot can be used for an 802.11b radio that may serve customers on one end of a hotel floor. |

Music Museum to Get Wi-Fi (Dec 08 2003 20:56 GMT) - I wrote a story for the Seattle Times about a planned wireless network at the Experience Music Project: The rock museum, built by Paul Allen, plans to offer the network to visitors but also use it for a variety of internal functions. One plan is to use the network to stream audio and video to handheld devices that visitors can carry around through the exhibits. I'm not sure I did a very good job of conveying how interesting this project is. |
