Happy 10th Birthday, NAFTA! (Dec 08 2003 23:31 GMT) - Sunday's Blade ran two stories that unintentionally marked the 10th anniversary of NAFTA. The firstis about a small Ohio village that lost about 1,200 jobs to low-wage Mexican workers. More than 1,200 hourly and salaried employees lost their jobs last December after Ottawa[base ']s largest employer abandoned the Putnam County village for lower costs in Mexico. Since then, about 1,100 former Philips factory workers have been searching for ways to replace jobs that paid $14 an hour on average, although about 140 either have retired or will within two years. Latest Action Figure Finds (Dec 08 2003 23:25 GMT) - There's a lot new product hitting the shelves lately, according to our readers. Alex Miller has found the intial assortment of the Saga Ultra line in a Toys R Us in Somerville, NJ. Stephen Hayford scored the Hoth wave (and guest) this past weekend at a Wal-Mart in North Fort Meyers, Florida. And Keith Smith found the third wave of the Clone Wars figures at Wal-Mart in Mattson, including both packaging variations of the Clone Trooper. Other reports indicate the Outlander wave has been showing up the past few weeks, including the corrected version of Elan Sleazebaggano, and the Boba Fett assortment of the Unleashed line as well. |
