.NET Nightly 67 (Dec 09 2003 19:29 GMT) - You know, the more and more detached the technology we use the easier it is to have "internet" or "telephone" tough guys... these are people who are willing to be complete assholes to people they don't know, especially if they can do it anonymously. I have to believe that most of the people who will leave crappy comments or be an asshole on the phone, would never do that face to face. (either because the person is "real" then, or because they don't want to get there ass kicked) Annotations Service - The newest thing posted on MSDN lab, this is the service used when you post comments on something in the longhorn SDK, and apparantly you can load external RSS feeds as well. Understanding Microsoft's Caching Application Block - Good article on one of the more neglected application blocks. |

They’re Searching So Why Aren’t They Buying? (Dec 09 2003 19:28 GMT) - There seems to be a common myth regarding site visitors and the buying process these days. I've heard this statement more than a few times over the last several months: "My visitors find me when they use search engines. They type in the exact keyphrases I'm listed under. So when they get to my site why aren't they buying? |

Search Engine Marketing Has Just Grown Up (Dec 09 2003 19:28 GMT) - The free ride is officially over. From now on, you can't just create a site by the book, trade a few links with friendly competitors and expect to be found in Google for phrases that are relevant to millions of other sites. If you want to beat those other sites, you're gonna have to work your butt off. You're gonna have to live and breathe your Web site. |

Arrest related to death of ... (Dec 09 2003 19:28 GMT) - Arrest related to death of "God's banker" Roberto Calvi, chairman of the Vatican-related bankrupt Banco Ambrosiano, was found hanged under a bridge in London in 1982, and his death has been prominent in every Vatican-related conspiracy theory ever since. His death was first ruled suicide, then open, and now the police has arrested a 42-year old woman in relation to the old case. I guess that means they consider it likely he was killed. |

Spam and law (Dec 09 2003 19:28 GMT) - Watch this not work. As much as we want to limit spam, legal remedies aren't going to work for a global internet - a spammer using a server in Asia, who resides outside the US. Sending email through that server is not under the jurisdiction of the US in any way shape or form. It's time to face up to the reality that free email is the problem.... |

Whipping up enthusiasm (Dec 09 2003 19:26 GMT) - Japan: Five members of the Panawave Laboratory sect have been arrested in connection with the death of a member who was allegedly beaten to death last August. According to the police, beating members is a regular practice of the group, which believes it helps to raise spirits and had compiled an instruction manual on how to do it. The police also found that there was a hierarchy in the group, and Fujimori and the other suspects played various roles, with some ordering beatings and others carrying them out. The police will investigate who compiled the manual and also probe the structure of the group and whether punishment beatings were routine. |
