WTC Tower To Be Tallest Building (Dec 10 2003 13:58 GMT) - The Times reveals that the main building of the redesigned WTC will vastly different from Daniel Libeskind's design. The new design, from tower architect David Childs and engineer Guy Nordensen, will be revealed next week by Governor George Pataki. Times reporter David Dunlap's description: Those who have seen the design of the Freedom Tower, as Mr. Pataki calls it, describe a torqued and tapering form culminating in an unoccupied, open-air structure filled with cables, trusses, antennas and — recalling the energy source that helped settle Lower Manhattan 350 years ago — windmills that may generate 20 percent of the electrical power needed by the building. |

Abbey Camp (Miscellaneous by festyboy) (Dec 10 2003 13:58 GMT) - This fort was oval in shape with a defence consisting of a single bank of great strength. This has been badly ploughed down and the A38 now runs right through the middle of it! The camp measured about 340 yards from northwest to southeast, and 240 yards from northeast to southwest. There is an entrance on the south side, and an additional bank branched off from the main work at the southeastern end. There is a local tradition that 'in the time of the wars blood ran down Abbey Lane like water', and many ... |

The Human Incarnation of Footnotes (Dec 10 2003 13:57 GMT) - Jonah Goldberg: "For a sizable group of Democrats, Al Gore gets the blood pumping. For the rest of us, he's the human incarnation of footnotes: dry data compressed into an amazingly dull format. The Simpsons said it best when Bart's friend Martin bought a talking Al Gore doll. |

Testing CSK sites locally with domain names (Dec 10 2003 13:57 GMT) - Have you ever needed to test a site using the site's actual domain name, before being able to actually point that domain name to the server on which you're developing the site? As most of you probably already know, testing a site using http://localhost/mysitename/ in many cases is less than ideal, and isn't even possible in some cases. One such case is when using the ASP.NET Community Starter Kit, which allows you to host multiple community sites using the same codebase, by resolving the requested domain and retrieving the specific content for that community, with that content stored in a database. |

Ablington Camp (Fieldnotes by festyboy) (Dec 10 2003 13:56 GMT) - This is situated close to the village of Ablington, six miles northeast of Cirencester. It stands on a projecting promontory, round which flows the River Coln. A single bank of considerable strength, which runs across the headland in an irregular semicircle, forms the defences. The bank measures 630 yards from the point where it leaves the steep escarpment on the north, until it returns to it at the other end of the camp. The camp encloses an area of nearly 9 acres. |
