False accusations of child abuse ... (Dec 11 2003 03:54 GMT) - False accusations of child abuse The retired Norwegian judge Trygve Lange-Nielsen has managed to help seven people who were convicted for sexually abusing children in Norway in the 90s to be retried and acquitted. He is convinced that at least one hundred people were falsely convicted for sexual abuse of children in that decade. Why? Because whenever somebody were accused of sexually abusing children, the child was examined at the Aker clinic (Akerklinikken), and they concluded in 30-40 percent of the cases that the genitalia showed evidence of sexual abuse. Re: Works in Progress - How To? (Dec 11 2003 03:51 GMT) - I second a [draft] button. I'm getting a little behind on posts and have actually pushed headlines out of my rss.xml(XML). It seems posting without a any categories increments what ever counts the number of headlines in the XML. Now with over 15 articles not posted, I've got an XML file with not items, even though new items were posted. |

Whitehouse said to be unaware of Pentagon memo (Dec 11 2003 03:50 GMT) - This is rich. The NY Times says in Bush Seeks Help of Allies Barred From Iraq Deals that the Whitehouse was blindsided by the Pentagon. Senior diplomats are saying that the objective of rewarding coalition partners could have been achieved by simply giving them preferential treatment, rather than excluding those who opposed the war. |

Microsft Wins HTML App Patent (Dec 11 2003 03:49 GMT) - Slashdot - Microsoft on Tuesday won a patent for launching a certain kind of HTML application within Windows. The patent, "Method and apparatus for writing a Windows application in HTML" (Hypertext Markup Language), describes Microsoft's way of opening up HTML applications in a window free of navigation and other interface elements, known as "chrome," and browser security restrictions.' Wow, I haven't written on a specific patent in a long time, because there's nothing much new to say. But this time there is: This is the first patent I've seen that isn't even in theory a patent on a new piece of technology, or even a new application of an old technique. |
