OpenRISC 1000 (Dec 11 2003 05:37 GMT) - Slashdot has a pointer to OpenRISC 100, an open-source design of a system-on-chip, designed by Flextronics. "It is a 32-bit general-purpose microcontroller implemented on UMC 0.18um targetting embedded applications with maximum clock frequency of 160MHz." Am wondering: could this be used as a base to design the thin client - the USD 50 client (excluding monitor) that I'd love to see happen? |

James Street, London (Dec 11 2003 05:35 GMT) - Looks like there's a hottie somewhere on James Street, adjacent to Selfridges. SSID jre-wireless-4 and numerous Rendezvous contacts popped up near to the Lamb pub and also nearby the courtyard. Patchy reception, but good speed - managed to get a handful of audios downloaded before I got cut. |

where is version 1.0? (Dec 11 2003 05:35 GMT) - it's great that there is a standard set of symbols in the works. it's still a little vague where to actually see them. why is the version only 0.9? can't you pull the trigger and publish 1. |

Wifi my local area for my first warwalk success (Dec 11 2003 05:35 GMT) - It's been in my interest as a web page developer that someday I could sit outside and leech Internet access without committing any crime, well this is how myself SolidCore and a friend Elf discovered it to be a reality. |

The BBC's support for RSS ... (Dec 11 2003 05:33 GMT) - The BBC's support for RSS isn't new, but it is newly explained on their site. For example, if you scroll to the bottom of the index page for UK news, in the lower right corner you'll see a menu item called "RSS version." Click to visit a page that explains what RSS is all about, and links to the feed for the page you came from. It requires a little digging to find all the goodies, but the payoff is huge because the BBC has so much you can subscribe to. Now there's a way to find it from the BBC site. |

Sons of Fortune (Dec 11 2003 05:32 GMT) - Jeffrey Archer: Sons of FortuneNot quite quintessential Archer, but still good. I like the ending, where you should have paid attention to details of habit to discover who wins. (***) |

The Romantic: A Novel (Dec 11 2003 05:32 GMT) - Just picked up Barbara Gowdy's The Romantic from the library. It's an express loan, however, meaning I can only have it for a week and there's no renewals, plus a high penalty rate on it. So I have one week to read this novel!I'm reading it as part of this book club I've joined (ha! didn't I say I already have too much going on? |

The Conscience of a Liberal: Reclaiming the Compassionate Agenda (Dec 11 2003 05:32 GMT) - Wellstone Action is launching a national reading of Paul Wellstones book, Conscience of a Liberal on Thursday, February 5, 2004. On that evening, hundreds of people in communities across the United States will gather to discuss Pauls book and to share their own ideas about how to move our country in a more progressive and humane direction. Geek Notes 2003-12-10 (Dec 11 2003 05:29 GMT) - I spent another day in Matt Fangman's BizTalk class today. Apparently a reader or two are either on the BizTalk team or know someone on the BizTalk team, because during the session Matt looked over at me and said, "Dude! A guy on the product team just sent me a link to your blog posting!" Matt's session was excellent. BTS2K4 is a significant release and has really got me thinking about SOAs. |
