For the next seven days ... (Dec 11 2003 05:20 GMT) - For the next seven days I'll be living in the library (not literally) studying for my four exams so blogging will be light since I will be studying and because the DC Library has blocked all my favorite ports and I'm too lazy to setup SSH port forwarding. But tonight before the big buckling down we went to Guelph to see Melissa Ferrick play at the Cafe Aquarius (quite possibly the world's largest vegan restaurant). Sadly, her drummer wasn't with her, but none the less, it was a great show, especially the super long uncensored version of Drive. I even bought her latest CD. In other news... |

Review - Open Source Network Administration (Dec 11 2003 05:20 GMT) - [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service] - 11 Dec 2003: You would think that with all the information that comes with a Linux or Unix operating system and the wealth of information that can be found online that a book of this type is unnecessary. When you pick it up you also realize it's not one of those mammoth guides. So what did the author put into this title to make it interesting for all you network administrators using or interested in using open source tools? |

.NET Technologies Drive Global Brand Building through Online Presence (Dec 11 2003 05:19 GMT) - The World Rally Championship (WRC) provides a turbo-charged atmosphere for both drivers and rally enthusiasts alike. But the technology used to market the brand and to drive awareness has largely been traditional. Since securing the TV and commercial rights for the sport in April 2002, International Sportsworld Communicators (ISC) has been faced with a number of challenges, including building a global brand and, as part of this process, connecting WRC to its audience via the web. Utilizing Microsoft .NET technologies and Accenture as their new media partner, ISC has been able to bring the WRC to a broader audience, accessing new services and interactive online content via wrc. |

Is glass solid or liquid? (Dec 11 2003 05:18 GMT) - Everyone has heard that glass in old church windows is thicker at the bottom and thinner at the top. The conclusion that most people draw from this is that glass is a liquid and that it has slowly settled to the bottom over time. I first heard of this phenomena from my high-school physics teacher. It turns out that the explanation for why glass is thicker at the bottom than at the top in old church windows is much more interesting. It is sometimes said that glass in very old churches is thicker at the bottom than at the top because glass is a liquid, and so over several centuries it has flowed towards the bottom. |

last class reflection (Dec 11 2003 05:18 GMT) - "When we began our textwork, things began to change. There was a lot of sorrow in peoples stories, including my own. When Raymon began to have us do our sourcework and textwork alone, there were a lot of tears, and a lot of confused faces. We didn't know what to think. We didn't even really know what we were doing. |
