invent me please (mail.app) (Dec 11 2003 08:58 GMT) - So a friend writes, "so why isn't mail.app better integrated into iCal? Why isn't there a script to turn a message into a iCal event or task? There are two tries floating around out there, but nothing that works." Good question. |

MX 2004 UIComponent borderColor (Dec 11 2003 08:57 GMT) - I was playing with border styles today. I ran into this before as well - on any components that have borders, the help documents say that the following properties set various border elements: borderColor a highlightColor b borderColor c shadowColor... |

Windows XP and Fun With Sysprep (Dec 11 2003 08:57 GMT) - Sysprep, for those of you who don't know, is a Windows utility that allows for the attempt to "Clone" a workstation or server for distribution to other machines. The upshot is you can do an install once, and roll it out to many machines. At least that's how it's suppose to work in Theory. |

Oh, the humanity (Dec 11 2003 08:56 GMT) - Ego-digging and nostalgia-surfing on the web, I found this page. The year is 2001, dot.com is bursting all around us, and I gave a talk about Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and Open Source. Scroll down, near Eric Raymond, below Hans Reiser (ReiserFS) and above Maddog Hall, that's me. Now, how's that for company? |

The Amazon “in-stock” lie (Dec 11 2003 08:55 GMT) - Amazon.com runs a fine store. It's a great store for an online store and it's a great store when compared to brick and mortar stores. With that said, Amazon has recently caused me to raise an eyebrow at their very forgiving use of the term “usually ships within 24 hours” |

A great post about businesses cutting costs to the bone (Dec 11 2003 08:55 GMT) - Chuq Von Rospach: Cutting costs might not save money. That's one of the problems of companies that have grown large enough that the left toe and the right thumb no longer communicate. The right thumb only sees it's budget in terms of thumb-things, and doesn't know (or care) that cutting costs on thumb-things causes the toe to go over budget. Not his problem, the thumb. |

A funny thing I've noticed about people from Wisconsin (Dec 11 2003 08:55 GMT) - This isn't really about people from Wisconsin as much as it is from people around the Madison, WI area. Most in the Madison area think that Madison is the bomb. It's a nice city with a nice big college in it that makes up a decent percentage of its population. The funny thing about people from around Madison is that if you don't live in or very close to Madison, then you are out of your mind. They laugh that anyone would consider living in a town as small and remote as the one I now reside in, Reeseville. |

Listening and bugs (Dec 11 2003 08:55 GMT) - Brent Simmons had two really good straight forward posts today. The first post deals with developers and their need to listen to a user's problem, not necessarily their solution. Users will often tell you a solution as they describe the problem. The solution may or may not be legit, but the problem normally is. The second post is about posting a bug report. |

Supreme Court Limits Freedom of Speech. (Dec 11 2003 08:53 GMT) - I understand what the Supreme Court was trying to do. The ads close to an election usually are over-the-top, out-of-control attack ads. So the Court's decision may really act as intended, and lead to more civilized elections. It might... |
