Boy it really pisses me ... (Dec 11 2003 13:38 GMT) - Boy it really pisses me off when Republicans compare Howard Dean to George McGovern. That swaps in memories of Watergate and dirty tricks, and a Republican vice-president who resigned in shame, and the Republican president who followed him, and his successor, also a Republican, who pardoned him. And what about the Republican attorney general brought up on charges, convicted, who served time. And he wasn't alone. The chief of staff and a top advisor also did time. |

2004 Presidential Election Here's a ... (Dec 11 2003 13:35 GMT) - 2004 Presidential Election Here's a story from about the reaction of Iowa political leaders to Al Gore's endorsement of Howard Dean from the AP via the Rocky Mountain News [December 11, 2003, "Iowa Leaders Divided on Gore Endorsement"]. From the article, "Another question is how many Iowans were put off by the secrecy behind the Gore-Dean alliance and Gore's treatment of Joe Lieberman. The Connecticut senator had withheld a decision to run until Gore declined to challenge President Bush - and then didn't rate a phone call before the announcement broke Monday. Any significant help from Gore in Iowa may come only if he pulls on his boots and goes town to town on behalf of Dean. The former vice president remains popular in the state he narrowly won in the general election against Bush. |

An interesting navigation idea (Dec 11 2003 13:33 GMT) - I recently had the pleasure of meeting two visiting online journalists from Sweden's Sydsvenskan. While discussing the Swedish online media landscape, one of them, Andreas, introduced me to Aftonbladet, a popular newspaper site. What's notable about Aftonbladet is its unusual navigation scheme: The site's home page content, a complete index of the day's news, is repeated nearly in full at the bottom of individual story pages. (See this example story page). |
