Quicktime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component (Dec 11 2003 14:59 GMT) - I'm now the proud owner of Apples Mpeg2 playback component for Quicktime. I purchased this hoping that I would be able to convert some DVD formated mpeg2 files that I captured on my Windows box into a format that I could use in iMovie to edit, the finally in iDVD to burn. Well I guess i should have done some more research because this works great for video, but not for audio, which is turning into a common problem for me. I'm sure I'll get some other uses out of it. I just need to read up on some of the de-muxing audio, then rejoining so I can edit it. |

(Dec 11 2003 14:59 GMT) - UZBEKISTAN: Death row prisoners denied clergy access (Forum18) Uzbekistan is denying clergy access to death row prisoners, Tamara Chikunova, head of the Uzbek NGO Mothers Against the Death Penalty and Torture, has told Forum 18 News Service. This denial violates two articles of the Uzbek Criminal Code, which specifically allow those sentenced to death the right to meet a member of the clergy. Fr Nikolai Rybchinsky, of the Central Asian diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, told Forum 18 that in the case of two death row prisoners "so far at least, Orthodox priests have not been allowed access to these prisoners. |

Thank You Apple (Dec 11 2003 14:57 GMT) - This morning I'm revelling in the style, quality, and overall coolness of OS X. The whole experience, especially on Panther. Exposé is way better than any of us imagined it would be. iTunes 4.1 (especially with the music store) can be relaxing, or exciting, or depressing, or whatever you want. |

MONGOLIA: NO CHANGES TO RELIGION ... (Dec 11 2003 14:55 GMT) - MONGOLIA: NO CHANGES TO RELIGION LAW - FOR NOW (Forum18) At present there are no official plans to change Mongolia's 1993 religion law, Forum 18 News Service has been told. Some of its existing restrictive provisions are apparently unenforced, such as the article prohibiting religious activities organised outside Mongolia "to introduce foreign religions within Mongolia." Reportedly Buddhist-backed proposals, however, have included a ban on all unregistered religious activity and authority given to local councils to determine the percentage of minority religious organisations in relation to Buddhist organisations. Concerns have been expressed about Christian activity in Mongolia, partially due to suggestions from some Buddhists that "Christians teach that if someone commits suicide they receive eternal life. |

Voluptuous vs. concave (Dec 11 2003 14:55 GMT) - I'm a firm believer in the fact that being too skinny looks painful and unattractive. If I can see the outline of your liver, you're too fucking thin: eat a cookie. And now there's documented truth in the form of Renee Zellweger. As a scrawny girl she looks like a walking skeleton. |
