eLearning in an enlarged European Union (Dec 11 2003 14:26 GMT) - "EDEN" invites for the annual conference on "New Challenges and Partnerships in an enlarged European Union" on 16-19 June, 2004 at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary). The conference will address the core questions of how distance and e-learning can best play a role in capacity building, support modernisation and regional development. The starting EU eLearning Programme faces further challenges in the transforming situation. It is worth assessing, according to our latest knowledge, what e-learning is worthwhile using for - and what not? "EDEN" invites the professional community of e-learning, distance and flexible education to join the conference, share expertise, draw up new scenarios, elaborate on strategies, gather and analyse best practice experience and contribute to the definition of relevant policies for the new Europe. |

A Review of Balancing Agility and Discipline (Dec 11 2003 14:26 GMT) - In Balancing Agility and Discipline, Barry Boehm and Richard Turner attempt the unenviable task of trying to meld the agile and traditional methodology approaches to software development. Overall, they present a fairly reasonable discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of each, although I do have some qualms about the name of the book. Staring with the title of the book and continuing throughout the text the authors depict the plan-driven methodologies as being “disciplined. |

RHINO'S BOTTOM LINE - Why I'm for Dean (Dec 11 2003 14:24 GMT) - Why I'm for Dean by William Greider, The Nation, 12/15/03 First, the rivals saw him as a McGovernite lefty from the 1960s. When that didn't take, they decided to depict him as a right-wing clone of Newt Gingrich who wants to dismantle Medicare and Social Security. Finally, opponents sold political reporters on the story of Mr. Malaprop, an oddball from tiny, liberal Vermont so insensitive to the nuances of American politics his mouth will destroy him. Howard Dean surged ahead through all this. |
