Debunking the Victory in the Balkans (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - Assume the Position analyses the 'victory' in the Balkans mentioned in this previous post: That's over four years of UN occupation since President Bill Clinton and General Wesley Clark declared the end of major combat operations in Kosovo—not bad for a speck one-fortieth the size of Iraq and with one-tenth the population. Clark's Iraq strategy is to "End the American monopoly" by replacing the Coalition Provisional Authority with "a new international structure - the... |

Abusing the Internet (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - Here's a little something related to this previous post, via Buzz Machine: President Robert Mugabe's anti-British diatribes rose to new extremes yesterday when he declared that Britain was using the internet to destroy Zimbabwe and recolonise the Third World. Making his first public appearance since withdrawing from the Commonwealth three days ago, Mr Mugabe used a United Nations conference on information technology to deliver his attack. "Beneath the rhetoric of free press... |

Faith Based Prison (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - What do you think? A plan to turn a Florida prison into a faith-based program is raising the ire of a liberal watchdog group. Americans United for the Separation of Church and State opposes Florida Gov. Jeb Bush''s plan to convert the Lawtey Correctional Institution, a medium-security prison in Bradford County, into a facility run along religious lines. "This is a clearly unconstitutional scheme," said the Rev. |

Parasite Party Preps for DefeatVictory (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - Ann Coulter takes a look at some voter demographics and concludes that Democrats have 40% of eligible voters on their payroll, as in, bought off with government programs. This is all to make the point that anything short of a 50 state landslide will be billed as a defeat for Bush in '04. The conclusion: Fortunately, there are some Americans who vote against their base self-interest for the good of the nation. God help us if the Democratic Party ever wavers on its three major... |

So, the Axis of Weasel won't get Iraq contracts (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - Steven Den Beste reacts somewhat negatively to the idea that France, Germany and Russia should be allowed to bid on Iraq contracts. All correct and in line with US public opinion. But the administration should go one step further. In concert with the new Iraqi government, the administration should repudiate all debts owed by Saddam's regime. That would send a strong message to those governments that support genocidal and terrorist sponsoring regimes with loans and other financial... |

Helpline Comment (24719) (Dec 11 2003 21:17 GMT) - Re: name brands, my experience at Sony About 5 years ago I had the oppotunity to work as a kitter (kit builder) on the Sony VAIO desktop line at their San Diego plant. At the time, the 100MHz FSB was standard top-of-the-line and the top VAIOs were running PII-400s. Sony outsourced nearly every single part, there were only 2 Sony brand components that I could identify, floppy and DVD drives. However, I am quite sure that many, if not most, of the outsourced parts were actually from Sony partners or subsidiaries. |
