The Revolution of Everyday Life (Dec 11 2003 21:32 GMT) - A translation of TRAITÉ DE SAVOIR-VIVRE Ŕ L'USAGE DES JEUNES GÉNÉRATIONS by Raoul Vaneigem. Not for the easily bored or the syntactically weak. Scroll down a ways to get to the main text. There's a lot of nonsense at the top. |

Signs of Life (Dec 11 2003 21:32 GMT) - The Signs of Life project is by design a harmless and gentle form of unsanctioned public art. Around where I lived in the Boston area in 1996, some artist type had done a little landscape painting with oils on a piece of masonite and had bolted it to a "no parking" sign. It was done legally, and was paid for by some arts council and must have been several years old at the time I took notice because it was pretty beat up. I liked the idea. Since almost all of the street signs in the Boston area had these extra bolt holes drilled all the way down, this was just real estate for the taking in my eyes. |

Genesis P Orridge on Brion Gysin (Dec 11 2003 21:32 GMT) - He was the Leonardo of the 20th century, whose surreal work could change the way people thought. Brion Gysin (1916–1986) was a multifaceted artist whose fertile mind and wide range of original ideas were a source of inspiration for artists of the Beat Generation in Paris, as well as to innovative artists and performers such as David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Keith Haring, and Laurie Anderson in the next generation. |

I'm bored (Dec 11 2003 21:30 GMT) - So here are a few brief diversions. Last night, a friend forwarded me, Qveere Eye for thye Medieval Man. "The series of panels depicts a roving band of do-gooders and samaritans who use their talents to make life better for various peasants and serfs in the area" and was created using the still-fun Bayeaux tapestry generator. In a similar vein, Queer Eye for the Fandom Guy is making the rounds on LiveJournal. A few excerpts: |

Web Marketing Your Business With Linux, Part 1 (Dec 11 2003 21:30 GMT) - "Look at how important we are, with our super cool web site, using EIEIO technology. But, since we are so busy, please don't try to contact us." That's the message I get when I see a slick, interactive, animated web site with never so much as a phone number, contact name or email address on any of the pages. Sure, there are reasons to limit the types of information on a personal web site, but for a business? I always thought the idea of having a business web presence was to help people find, contact and ultimately buy products and services from a company. |

A shortcut to sashimi (Dec 11 2003 21:28 GMT) - I had decided to take the rest of today off. See, I really only have about six usable hours in a day anyways. If I try and push myself much beyond that, I get cranky and irritable and my productivity suffers. Then I rebel and read novels the next day. So I have to work consistently (as in, every day) because I can't really push myself too far. |
