The Weekend of Hedonism Begins (Dec 12 2003 01:57 GMT) - Excepting Calgary (and that was on business, so it hardly counts), I haven't left Greater Vancouver for nine months. While this was a refreshing change of pace from our one-trip-a-month routine in Europe, I'm pleased that it's coming to an... |

The .NET Show: Longhorn at the PDC (Dec 12 2003 01:55 GMT) - At the end of October, Microsoft held the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles. With the largest number of attendees of any previous PDC, we presented details regarding many upcoming developer-oriented technologies, including "Whidbey" (the codename for the next version of Visual Studio), "Yukon" (the codename for the next version of SQL Server), as well as the much anticipated "Longhorn" (the codename for the next version of Windows). Fortunately, we had our camera crew down there as well, and were able to film a special episode of the .NET Show during the event. |

Management Accessibility Service (Dec 12 2003 01:54 GMT) - Management Accessibility means ensuring that the management of your company is accessible via your web presence. Too many companies try to shield management from customers with PR departments and other non-communication methods. Some companies may provide a short bio of the company executives, but they provide no way to contact them. Customers want to be able to communicate with the principals of the companies that they do business with. Companies that embrace communication with customers are more successful in maintaining loyal customers and better reputations. |

Kinda Weird How the World Works (Dec 12 2003 01:52 GMT) - You have a child. You name him in honor of the greatest living writer in the world, one of the few authors that both you and your spouse agree is great. Of course, now that you have said child, you no longer have time to read books. At least there are book reviews. Má |

What goes around comes around. (Dec 12 2003 01:52 GMT) - What goes around comes around. You give, you get, and it's always been so. Pat Marino of Williamsburg called earlier this week to invite me to breakfast. He had bought two tickets for a church sportsman's breakfast and his wife couldn't go. "I'll buy you breakfast," he said. |

General Ross Conquers CNN! (Alex Ross, that is) (Dec 12 2003 01:51 GMT) - While taking a gander at CNN I noted the following blurb on Alex Ross. The link features Chip Kidd's new book on Ross' art called "Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross". (DC Comics is a unit of Time Warner, as is CNN; Pantheon Books, the publisher of "Mythology," is part of the Bertelsmann publishing empire). |

Prepare to have your door ... (Dec 12 2003 01:51 GMT) - Prepare to have your door blown in Bradley A. Buckles, the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), is to take over the Anti-Piracy Unit of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With RIAA already having the same reputation the ATF got after the Waco massacre, it can only go further downhill from here. |

Thinking about what I write (Dec 12 2003 01:49 GMT) - I have been writing to many entries that I delete. I start out with strong convictions, then I start to think about my potential audience and pare them back. While my readership is small, my personal views could seem in conflict with my neighborhoods views. Enough of that. I shouldn't delete what I think. |
