African writing especially for kids (Dec 12 2003 09:02 GMT) - An interesting initiative from the newsreader this morning: "Writers from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia have been shortlisted for the 2004 Macmillan Writer's Prize for Africa, the only prize to recognise the very best in unpublished African fiction for children and young people." The story was in 'This Day', one of the finer Nigerian newspapers (via allAfrica). Given the relative scarcity of children's fiction about Africa from Africa, it's a shortlist well worth "googling" on through... |

Willpower (Dec 12 2003 09:00 GMT) - I'm a big fan of trilogies - The Godfather, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Matrix... emm.. and all the others (yeah Alien but I've only seen the first one) - so I'm looking forward to the Return of the King, the final instalment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As I've mentioned before, I've not read the books, and managed to watch the first two films unadultered by reviews, comments, or any spoilers. Unfortunately this morning I lapsed, but it wasn't really my fault... |
