Newcastle Gateshead is the place to be (Dec 12 2003 10:55 GMT) - Report recognises influx to the North East Newcastle Gateshead is being talked about alot as the place to be... but now it has officially been recognised as so. According to a new report published by influential think tank Demos and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Newcastle and Gateshead are reversing the 'brain drain' of graduates and professionals to the south-east. Improved quality of life, affordable houses and the cultural buzz symbolised by projects like the Baltic art gallery and the Sage Gateshead are all key reasons why Newcastle and Gateshead are attracting people, according to the report,'Northern Soul' which was published this week. Demos found that more than 54 per cent of companies in Newcastle and Gateshead were seeing evidence of 'brain gain' and were employing more people from outside the North East. |
