Court orders man to be blinded with acid - Reuters (Dec 12 2003 10:43 GMT)

- "Pakistani man has been sentenced to be blinded by acid after a judge found him guilty of doing the same to his former fiancee, court officials have said. Mohammad Sajid carried out an acid attack on Rabia Bibi in June after her parents broke off their engagement and gave her hand to someone else."I normally find myself siding with the liberals, but on this particular occasion, I feel our society will be better served if the court order is carried out. The man's fate will serve as a dreadful example for others who have the potential of following suit. To the Pakistani mediamen who may be reading this post, can we please put this judgement on the headlines.

collaboration taxonomy... (Dec 12 2003 10:37 GMT)

- Judith Meskill has this story about taxonomies for collaboration in corporations. My take is this: When organisations struggle to manage their real value - the people and their knowledge - they often resort to solutions that are traditional, or at least measurable. It is quite hard for a manager to let go the security and comfort of a standard business plan with goals measured in Euros or Dollars, and milestones at least once every Quarter of the year. So when someone like me approaches top management with the idea that bottom-up knowledge management, using simple tools, is the way to go - it is not entirely sure that they will respond kindly and listen carefully.
