Longtemps plus connu pour avoir fait partie de ces romans anglos-saxons (Ulysse de Joyce, Lolita de Nabokov, les oeuvres d'Henry Miller) censurés et interdit de publication dans leur pays d'origine et publiés en France (où ils auraient aussi été censurés si les censeurs français avaient su parler anglais...). Mais c'est avant tout (en fait, comme Ulysse et Lolita, ce n'est pas un livre aussi choquant que le dit la rumeur) une histoire maritime et un roman sur l'enfance, inspiré de la vie de l'auteur. |
