Mine's a pint! (Dec 12 2003 23:24 GMT) - I am proud to be a part of a university that officially endorses beer drinking, reaffirming that age-old association between higher education and alcohol. Old Joe's Winter Warmer, will be available at the university's staff bar over Christmas for £2.15 a pint. So see you there then, the first round's on me! |

A Net of Control (Dec 12 2003 23:24 GMT) - Picture, if you will, an information infrastructure that encourages censorship, surveillance and suppression of the creative impulse. Where anonymity is outlawed and every penny spent is accounted for. Where the powers that be can smother subversive (or economically competitive) ideas in the cradle, and no one can publish even a laundry list without the imprimatur of Big Brother. Some prognosticators are saying that such a construct is nearly inevitable. And this infrastructure is none other than the former paradise of rebels and free-speechers: |

The Digital Imprimatur (Dec 12 2003 23:24 GMT) - Over the last two years I have become deeply and increasingly pessimistic about the future of liberty and freedom of speech, particularly in regard to the Internet. This is a complete reversal of the almost unbounded optimism I felt during the 1994-1999 period when public access to the Internet burgeoned and innovative new forms of communication appeared in rapid succession..... A lengthy, informative, 28,000-word Web document: |

tchii : Cet amour-là me tue. |

Trial Date Set in Abortion Clinic Bombing (Dec 12 2003 23:24 GMT) - A federal judge ruled Friday that Eric Rudolph, accused of a fatal abortion clinic bombing here, will go on trial beginning Aug. 2, 2004. Prosecutors had asked for a June 1 start. Defense attorney Richard Jaffe had objected, saying last month that his team has only a few lawyers to sort through thousands of documents. |

Apple is really on the ball. Well, at least their shipping department is. (Dec 12 2003 23:22 GMT) - This past Sunday, I ordered an eMac for my mother, and was pleasantly surprised (and a bit skeptical) when I received an email about two hours later that it had shipped. A two hour turnaround on a Sunday? Yesterday (Thursday) I noticed an eMac box sitting in our main work area, and didn't think much of it as I figured there was no way it was mine (we live in Hilo, Hawai'i). Someone else must have ordered one, or it was for our office. Seeing it still untouched today, I went over, and it was indeed the one I ordered. |

Mother Theresa Quote (Dec 12 2003 23:22 GMT) - Here's a quote that from Mother Theresa that really conveys where my heart is at lately. "I have come to realize that the greatest disease and the greatest suffering is to be unwanted, unloved, uncared for, to be shunned by everybody, to be just nobody to no one." Living the way that I did before I met Jesus put me... |
