Rocking xmas tune (Dec 13 2003 01:57 GMT) - While browsing through hours of free music (with an intent to buy) at Magnatune, I came across the electro sitar stylings of Anup. He's got that whole "sitars over beats" thing down that all the club kids are nuts for these days. But for a seasonal gem, listen to his take on Jingle Bells (mp3). Listening to the song makes me want to go door-to-door in my neighborhood and perform Bollywood musicals to it. |

Dow Up (Dec 13 2003 01:56 GMT) - Good US economic news continues, as the Dow average tops 10,000 for the first time in 19 months. If this sort of thing keeps up, if unemployment really decreases, and if the situation in Iraq stabilizes, George Bush will likely be very hard to beat in 2004. |

WHOA! (Dec 13 2003 01:52 GMT) - Mary Steyn goes after Salam Pax even worse than James Lileks did. At the beginning of this year Salam Pax was just another typical oppressed Baghdadi, four of whose relatives had ‘gone missing’ (according to his Guardian biog.). But a couple of weeks in the company of Guardian editors and he’s been transformed into a note-perfect, sneering, metropolitan poseur, right down to the two-decade-old Rambo putdown. He sounds like a Channel 4 commissioning editor. |
