Guess whose computer is broken? (Dec 13 2003 15:06 GMT) - Yes, friends, my PC is broken again. The motherboard (Asus P4P800 Deluxe) I put in this summer suddenly lost its onboard audio and NIC. The audio revived when I reinstalled the drivers but nothing seems to be bringing back the NIC. Further, my spare PCI NIC reports the same problem: the drivers install but the system says that it cannot be started. |

Social insects will teach robots how to function (Dec 13 2003 15:04 GMT) - The Bio Tracking project at the Georgia Tech Institute is trying to track and model the movements of social insects with the goal to create algorithms that enable robots to work as a team. By studying the movement and interaction of bees and ants, the scientists expect to reverse engineer their collective logic and apply in software on simulators and actual robots. The results achieved so far will be presented this week (Dec. 16-17) at the II International Workshop on the Mathematics and Algorithms of Social Insects. Here’s a link to the workshop. |

Resume Example (Hard Luck Version) (Dec 13 2003 15:01 GMT) - Phil Proctor gives us this definitive resume from one of the presently unemployed: My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned couldn't concentrate. Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe. After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it, mainly because it was a so-so job. Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was exhausting. |
