- Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore has filed what are the first, and could be the last felony charges under that state's anti spam laws, due to the apparently weaker CAN-SPAM law recently passed, and the charges are filed against North Carolina resident Jeremy Jaynes, also known under the pseudonym "Gaven Stubberfield," and his associate Richard Rutowski. They are charged with allegedly using fraudulent means to transmit unsolicited bulk e-mail. While this is the first criminal charge against a spammer, this is likely to be a growing trend as states take action on behalf of their residents as the problem of Spam on the net has grown to frustrating and costly proportions.
