Forward into the past! (Dec 14 2003 07:33 GMT) - After several failed attempts to read the book, finally the movie came to town. I had enjoyed some of Michael Crichton's earlier books and movies, including the Andromeda Strain and Sphere. My son read Crichton's recent Prey (about nanorobots) and enjoyed it, but try as I might I just couldn't get going with Timeline, where archeologists travel in time and space, back to 14th-century France and then of course must be rescued. |

Criminal Suspects Meet Their Match with Face Recognition Technology (Dec 14 2003 07:26 GMT) - Belgium is the first country in Europe to deploy face recognition technology nationwide. The innovative biometrics solution, based on a Microsoft Windows NT platform, is improving the quality of police data and facilitating investigative research. It's also helping to take much of the guesswork out of policing. Police no longer enter a suspect's name into a computer as he could be operating under a false identity. They put in his picture and find out he has five aliases. |
