Terrorism Panel Says Bush Should Appoint Advisory Board to Assess Any Changes in Civil Liberties (Dec 14 2003 12:59 GMT) - Terrorism Panel Says Bush Should Appoint Advisory Board to Assess Any Changes in Civil Liberties President Bush should appoint an advisory board to assess how new anti-terrorism measures such as the Patriot Act have affected Americans' civil liberties, a new report by a federal terrorism commission says. The commission, led by former Virginia Gov. James Gilmore, a Republican, also expresses concern that the Bush administration has failed to develop a comprehensive, forward-looking strategy to combat terrorism more than two years after the 2001 terrorist attacks. ed: hat tip mcghee Discussion |

This Site's Stability (Dec 14 2003 12:58 GMT) - I don't know if you've noticed, but this site has been incredibly stable the last few days. It had been crashing daily for most of last week. I even considered a new hosting provider to get rid of my OutOfMemory errors. Frequent crashing began shortly after I upgraded to 0.9. |

File this under "Miserable Failure" (Dec 14 2003 12:57 GMT) - I think this president's a disaster. I think this is the most right-wing administration we've had. It's an administration that makes all of its decisions based on a political calculus, at least domestically, and has been disastrous in terms of our relationships with other people around the world, and that... |

The Future of Flight (Dec 14 2003 12:56 GMT) - With "High Times," the Economist delivers a very long and extremely well-documented article about the future of aviation during the next fifty years. It tells us about pilotless planes, with 32 countries currently developing more than 250 models of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), primarily for combat purposes. The article also looks at future civilian pilotless planes and at the future of personal aviation, giving us a warning.. Even if it is, one day, possible to design a cheap personal craft that will land in the back garden between the washing line and the goldfish pond, huge social and environmental changes would be required to make it acceptable. Not many people will welcome the prospect of thousands of vehicles flying constantly overhead. |

What's up with Inbox Buddy? (Dec 14 2003 12:55 GMT) - I think Inbox Buddy is great software. I'm even quoted as saying this on their products page. They have a good licensing system too - at least as far as piracy is concerned. You are required to get the product number from a menu in Outlook, send it to them, and they'll respond with a serial number. The problem is that you can't close Outlook or the product number will reset itself and the serial number will be invalid. |

They got the bastard! (Dec 14 2003 12:52 GMT) - Paul Bremer: "Ladies and gentlemen, we got him" Sweeter words have never been spoken! Congratulations to the Iraqi people, and of course to the Americans who stuck to the task. There shouldn't be a doubt now that the Americans will stay the course and Iraq will rise into a powerful and balanced state in the world. This momentous event also should send a strong message to the rest of the defeated entourage: |
