Inside the NFL for Dec. 14 (Dec 14 2003 12:02 GMT) - Stats, some say, are for losers. The Eagles', no fantasy leaguer's cup of tea, to be sure, say it a lot. And as they keep on grinding out wins, who cares about gaudy numbers? |

Add this to the list (Dec 14 2003 12:00 GMT) - I've never read a critique of Chomsky that didn't distort his views to the point of absurdity, and Nick Cohen's "review" of Hegemony or Survival in The Observer is one of the most absurd I've ever read. I could write several thousand words here unpacking |

Rumble in Tikrit (Dec 14 2003 12:00 GMT) - Well, this is no longer topical. Saddam Hussein has been caught. Maybe (though I'm not too optimistic) this will mean British and American soldiers stop being killed so regularly in Iraq. |

Saddam Hussein has been captured... (Dec 14 2003 12:00 GMT) - Tony Blair has confirmed this morning that Saddam Hussein has been dug out from a cellar in Iraq and is now in custody. Apparently DNA testing has now confirmed that it is not one of his doubles. It's a shame, of course, that the West bank-rolled, armed and propped him up in the first place. More on this story: BBC: |

Damp (Dec 14 2003 12:00 GMT) - Everything is damp. The windows are dripping with condensation (the windows themselves and both sides of the secondary glazing in the bedroom/living room). My sleeping bag is damp, my duvet is damp, the pillows are damp, the clean clothes in my cupboard are clammy, the clothes that are 'drying' in the living room never will, all my books are warping, pages splaying outwards at the end of each shelf. [ Listening to Desert Island Discs just now, I've no idea who is on or what the piece of music being played is, but nothing, in my humble opinion, produces a more beautiful sound than the cello. ] It has become habit for me to head out for a walk on Sunday afternoons, it making a pleasant change from cycling. |

The question (Dec 14 2003 12:00 GMT) - Assuming that the man arrested in Iraq really is Saddam Hussein, the real question that will be asked now is what exactly to do with him. So far, finding much evidence of anything at all has been a problem. I... |
