When Dictators Fall (Dec 15 2003 17:59 GMT) - Foreign Policy spends some time gazing into the crystal ball while pondering what might happen after three dictatorships fall - namely, Cuba, North Korea, and Belarus. While the magazine itself notes that ridding a country of a despot is often easier than "figuring out who or what comes after," it is nonetheless an intriguing discussion. From the consideration of Cuba, for example: Is there a “morning-after pill” for Cuba’s Day After Fidel? For Cuban officials, the answer is yes. |

Côte d'Ivoire: Processus de désarmement : le retrait de l'armement lourd a commencé (Dec 15 2003 17:59 GMT) - Depuis le samedi 13 décembre les premières décisions de la réunion du 10décembre à Bouaké ont commencé à se matérialiser sur le terrain. Les Forcesarmées nationales de Côte d'Ivoire (FANCI) et les forces armées des Forcesnouvelles (FAFN) ont débuté le retrait de l'armement lourd de la ligne defront ainsi que le regroupement de l'armement léger dans les armureries:"C'est effectif, nous avons regroupé certains armements lourds à Bondoukou,à Daoukro et à Yamoussoukro. |

Sénégal: Retraite à 60 ans : l'intersyndicale revient à la table des négociations (Dec 15 2003 17:59 GMT) - Après son retrait des dénonciations tripartites entre le gouvernement et le patronat, l'Intersyndicale, après évaluation de ses activités, a décidé de revenir à la table des négociations. Même si l'imminence de la grève est écartée pour le moment, il se pourrait que les travailleurs observent un mouvement d'humeur pour la question de la retraite à 60 ans et d'autres revendications, laisse entendre le porte-parole de l'Intersyndicale, Mademba Sock. |

On en parle aussi comme d'un marathon où il fautavoir le souffle long pour ne pas se laisser irrémédiablement larguer dèsles premières journées (ou foulées) et ne pas confondre bon départ et bellearrivée. C'est que, autant il est important de bien démarrer autant il l'estde bien finir. |

Liverpool's world-class library plans unveiled (Dec 15 2003 17:59 GMT) - Charles Davis points us to a story "from the BBC. Plans to make Liverpool's library one of the most advanced in the world are on public display. The proposals include the creation of a walkway linking the library to Liverpool Museum and the Walker Art Gallery. There is also a proposal to demolish five floors of the central library which were re-built after the 1941 blitz, creating a new entrance and visitor centre. The plans are on display at the library from Monday, until April next year. |

Creative Commons One Year Anniversary Party (Dec 15 2003 17:58 GMT) - Last night I went to the Creative Commons Anniversary party in San Francisco with my buddy Vann. I'm so glad I went! We got there just before the speakers started up. There were hundreds of people, mostly dressed in black for some reason, free drinks and grub, and a groovin' dj. We grabbed a drink, had a seat in the front row on some cushy bean bags and enjoyed the line-up. |
