CRIA announces plans to sue uploaders (Dec 16 2003 19:59 GMT) - This National Post story covers plans by the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industries Association, basically our equivalent of the RIAA) to sue those who share music online. The timing of the announcement makes me wonder whether they were waiting for the Copyright Board decision to clarify that in fact, the BML does not make file sharing legal. blog tech (Dec 16 2003 19:57 GMT) - Fastbuzz. I'm continuing to search for free weblogging tools and news readers/aggregators to use with instructors and students. So far I like Movable Type the best as a blogging tool and Bloglines as a news reader, but Fastbuzz has some straightforward features: it's easy to sign on for a free account and easy to use the reader/subsciption functions. (I first noticed Fastbuzz in Dan Gilmor's eJournal. |

Retail Stores Trying Software Kiosks... Again (Dec 16 2003 19:56 GMT) - About five years ago, I was involved in a project looking at software kiosks for retail stores. The idea was that a shopper could walk up to the kiosk, select from a bunch of software titles, and the machine would pop out a receipt. Meanwhile, a second machine in the back of the store would get to work burning a CD and related artwork (and, potentially, manuals). This way, the thinking went, any software store (or, really, any store) could hold millions of software titles. However, the more I looked into it, the less exciting the idea became. |
