Over The Rainbow (Dec 19 2003 11:59 GMT) - Somewhere over the rainbowWay up highThere's a land that I heard ofOnce in a lullaby Somewhere over the rainbowSkies are blueAnd the dreams that you dare to dreamReally do come true Some day I'll wish upon a starAnd wake up where the clouds are far behind meWhere troubles melt like lemondropsAway above the chimney topsThat's where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbowBluebirds flyBirds fly over the rainbowWhy then, oh why can't I?Some day I'll wish upon a starAnd wake up where the clouds are far behind meWhere troubles melt like lemondropsAway above the chimney topsThat's where you'll find me Somewhere over the rainbowBluebirds flyBirds fly over the rainbowWhy then, oh why can't I? If happy little bluebirds flyBeyond the rainbowWhy, oh why can't I? |

RealNetworks sues Microsoft. In a ... (Dec 19 2003 11:58 GMT) - RealNetworks sues Microsoft. In a replay of the Justice Department's antitrust case, streaming media provider RealNetworks accuses Microsoft of illegally limiting consumer choice in digital media. [CNET News.com - Front Door] I'm sorry to say I have little sympathy for RealNetworks. They have contributed a lot to the Windows monopoly making subpar products for other platforms. |

Jacko X? (Dec 19 2003 11:57 GMT) - Jacko X? The question I have is why would the Nation of Islam be interested in helping someone who has spent his life trying to turn himself into a white woman? Fox News reports: Michael Jackson is panicked about his legal situation. In fact, he is so anxiety-ridden that he is now taking advice from a leader of the Nation of Islam rather than listening to his managers.... |

Open Source efforts in Iraq (Dec 19 2003 11:56 GMT) - A few interesting articles have come across my desk today about FLOSS in Iraq. A message in the Association For Community Networking members@afcn.org list referenced a LinuxJournal article by Adam Davidson. Adam Davidson is the Middle East Correspondent for Minnesota Public Radio's Marketplace and a Linux user. In his article he referenced a LinuxJournal article by Ashraf Hasson who is the founder of the new Linux Users Group of Iraq. |

Evan Leibovitch (LPI) covers WSIS: The Week That Was (Dec 19 2003 11:56 GMT) - Evan Leibovitch posted a letter to the LPI@WSIS mailing list which summarized some of his early thoughts. I did not expect that the nearly two-dozen wildly diverse people who made up the LPI team would bond so closely together, given the incredible stresses of the week. But we did. I did not expect that the LPI booth would be one of the most popular at the show, hosting lively discussions and providing information as late as 20:00 (8pm) some evenings, hours after "closing". |

Newsforge: RMS covers WSIS (Dec 19 2003 11:56 GMT) - This Newsforge article by Richard Stallman includes: The World Summit on the Information Society is supposed to formulate plans to end the "digital divide" and make the internet accessible to everyone on Earth. The negotiations were completed in November, so the big official meeting in Geneva last week was more of a trade show and conference than a real summit meeting. |

(Dec 19 2003 11:56 GMT) - I wrote a message today in the Rabble.ca Babble (BBS) that spoke about how peer production methodologies affect politics, and wondered who would be the first in Canada to fully embrace them. Yesterday I have the opportunity to make a closer connection with some NDP MPs. While the MPs were not available as government is not in session, I did talk with a few legislative assistants. |
