The fog (Dec 19 2003 17:59 GMT) - I have lived in my share of roach infested homes over the years. When you live near a restaurant that is not known for it's cleanliness or you live in a rowhome surrounded by dirtbags, no amount of fastidiousness can spare you the dreaded roach invasion. Roaches [and most other bugs] skeeve me right the hell out. Mr. Fish is the official bug killer in our house. |

Blogs and Books (Dec 19 2003 17:59 GMT) - Dori Smith is depressed by Biz Stone's rant on "how to get a book deal with your blog." By the way, Biz is right. So far I've gotten a few book deals offered to me because of my blog. I think that's mostly because they want people they know have an audience. Book publishers need to sell about 10,000 books to start making a profit. |

John Allen's Word From Rome (Dec 19 2003 17:57 GMT) - Allen is being uncharacteristically disingenuous in this new column:"Let's be very clear: Would it be healthier if the Vatican were more transparent? Unquestionably. The Vatican is a long way from what John Paul said he wanted it to be in January 1984, speaking to 1,000 journalists: |

Just A Note (Dec 19 2003 17:57 GMT) - I would like to reiterate my previous request for all GDN bloggers to fix their blog settings to reflect their full name, with an “[MS]” at the end for good measure. I know you guys used handles before, and that's really cool, but the blogs are read by more than just internal MS employees, and we don't know who many of you are. |

Reasons to Be Cheerful My ... (Dec 19 2003 17:56 GMT) - Reasons to Be Cheerful My Spam filter, the delightfully named 'I Hate Spam!', it pops up when I open the mail. My little software buddy. 84 incoming, I'm warned, and I swear to god it's only been a few hours since I last logged in. 84 messages for penis patches and the best loan ever without a credit check and barnyard sex and this season's hottest toy and humongous tatas and my free scooby doo gift and a cute little poem titled 'You're cute. |

Updated Profile and New Web site [Michael van Noorden] (Dec 19 2003 17:56 GMT) - Not before time, I am pleased to say that our web site has been updated thanks to the fantastic Daniela "Webbie" McGhie who will be the subject of several more blogs to say thank you and hopefully get some more clients. Sevida™ has evolved in order to provide companies with access to new and exciting products & services that we believe offer truly innovative solutions and are priced realistically. 10 years ago, we could rely upon the major IT corporations to bring to market the killer applications that drove efficiencies and increased productivity within companies. What we have seen is that these Corporations are no longer focusing on developing new products. |

Online Gamer Wins Back Goods From Virtual Theft (Dec 19 2003 17:55 GMT) - There's been a ton of discussion in the last few months about how the law applies as it crosses over the real/virtual barrier. The biggest question seems to be whether or not someone can be charged for stealing virtual items in an online game. Especially in cases where such items can be resold for real money, is it really theft, or is it "just a game"? What if the whole point of the game is to attack others and steal their stuff? There isn't a particularly easy way to answer these questions, though anyone creating an online game might want to think about it, as their "terms of service" are likely to act as a de facto Constitution for the world. |
