things that make you go hmmmm (Dec 20 2003 15:59 GMT) - I had this weird dream last night. I was at Wrigley field. We were allowed to go on the field and run the bases. I was rolling around on third base and someone kept saying "Tinkers, to Evans, to Chance."... |

LinkedIn bloggers (Dec 20 2003 15:59 GMT) - Silly stats du jour. If you search LinkedIn for weblog, you'll get 46 individuals, while a search for blog will return 42. Amazingly enough, none of the Trott will show up with those keywords, Mena has weblogs (32 results) and blogging (40 results) in her profile. With 18 blogs, 21 blogger and 3 bloggers, that's a mere 202 profiles mentioning weblog-related activities on LinkedIn among my 26,100+ network (I have no idea how many individuals are on LinkedIn, and I believe I cannot search beyond my network). Now I'm done with trying to turnaround LinkedIn's search engine limitations. |

Kaye Trammel asks what RSS ... (Dec 20 2003 15:57 GMT) - Kaye Trammel asks what RSS can do for you, and almost nails it. It's true you are being generous by publishing what you write in RSS; and it does make it easier for the reader, but you get something in return -- commitment. A person who subscribes to your weblog is saying they want a permanent relationship, they want to read everything you say. Someone who doesn't subscribe comes when they remember, or when someone else points to you. |

Sentient Data Access via a Diverse Society of Devices (Dec 20 2003 15:55 GMT) - ACM Queue - Sentient Data Access via a Diverse Society of Devices. As computing devices expand from the status-quo keyboard and desktop to a variety of form factors and scales, we can imagine workplaces configured to have a society of devices, each designed for a very specific task. As a whole, the collection of devices may act much like a workshop in the physical world, where the data moves among the specialized digital stations. For our society of devices to operate seamlessly, a mechanism will be required to (a) transport data between devices and (b) have it appear at each workstation, or tool, in the appropriate representation.
