A Quantum Theory of Internet Value (Dec 20 2003 20:59 GMT) - Gary Deane directs us to "this story from the UK IT site, The Register, that muses about why 'the Internet' (which is referred to in quotation marks throughout) has been such a disappointment. Despite the thoughtfulness of the piece, I am left wondering what a 'doughnut eating public' is." |

Silver Cars Are Safest. When ... (Dec 20 2003 20:58 GMT) - Silver Cars Are Safest. When I heard on a french radio network this morning that silver cars were less prone to accidents than cars of any other color, I had to find the source for this information. It is a study conducted (no puns intended!) in New Zealand in 1998 and 1999. This study has been published by the British Medical Journal under the name "Car colour and risk of car crash injury. |

Will The People Turn on ... (Dec 20 2003 20:58 GMT) - Will The People Turn on Bush?. Last night on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, the Republican jugular was exposed. Chris Matthews repeatedly asked Peggy Noonan, a most eloquent conservative spokesperson and top media champion for President Bush, a question which she simply could not answer. Recent polls were being discussed, specifically the bump in the President's ratings after the capture of Saddam Hussein. |

This product has been in the making for well over a year, and is a powerful demonstration of new convergence trends we're experiencing with the Internet -- social networking, VoIP, video messaging, broadband, instant messaging, and many others. |

Changing the rules Today's Wall ... (Dec 20 2003 20:53 GMT) - Changing the rules Today's Wall Street Journal contains in an in-depth analysis of the ongoing US Air Force procurement scandal, involving Boeing's leasing of tanker planes for refueling US jets. At the center is the "revolving door" that led the principal purchasing officer for the deal to land a major job offer shortly after the enormously profitable deal was signed. According to the article, "How Two Officials Got Caught By Pentagon's Revolving Door" (12/18/2003) , it wasn't just Boeing that was interested in hiring the insider knowledge and connections of the government procurement officer. Lockheed-Martin and Raytheon, two other defense industry giants, were also jockeying to buy her services.Such ethically dubious transitions from the underpaid public sector to the high-salary private sector and the opportunities for corruption they bring up have been around since the colonial army ordered muskets. |
