"A sickening preview of how New Labour might woo the 16-year-old vote is given on the website of a Blairite MP" och denne MP som Dawkins ogillar är förstås Watson. Det bloggar Watson om här, här och här. |

Semi-shock (Dec 21 2003 07:44 GMT) - Last post by absinthe on 06:15 21/Dec/03 - There was something going on in the lead singer's shorts during that Chili Pepper show on C4 last night. The camera kept avoiding his lower regions and doing distant angles, but every now and again the lens would catch him fiddling with his parts, the dirty show-off. |

4.5 severed orc heads out of 5 (Dec 21 2003 07:41 GMT) - I took a little time off work to compose a review of Return of the King. What a trilogy that was. I am not sure if any of them are on the top of my list, but they sure are up there. I have a great affection for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings saga, and these films filled the smoking hole George Lucas left when he betrayed me with those awful Star Wars prequels. Hmm, I am a little bitter I suppose -- and a total geek too, it would seem. |

Student Wins Spelling Bee.Spells Xmas With an X (Dec 21 2003 07:41 GMT) - “Why, it’s just unconscionable – U-N-C-O-N-S-C-I-O-N-A-B-L-E – for a student to abbreviate the holiest religious holiday of the year and replace the word “Christ” with a big fat “X,” responded Mrs. Julie Thesaurus, mother of losing competitor Susie Thesaurus from Christianville, California. Little Finkelstein, self-described as a 4-foot 2-inch pipsqueak wearing Harry Potter fake glasses with phony big bushy eyebrows responded, “Hey, that’s how we spell it in my Jewish neighborhood.” |

Gaddafi was coerced into submission (Dec 21 2003 07:40 GMT) - The Telegraph reports: Libya's promise to surrender its weapons of mass destruction was forced by Britain and America's seizure of physical evidence of Col Muammar Gaddafi's illegal weapons programme. United States officials say that America's hand was strengthened in negotiations with Col Gaddafi after a successful operation, previously undisclosed, to intercept transport suspected of carrying banned weapons. The operation is said to have been carried out under the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), an international, American-led scheme to halt the spread of WMD by seizing them in transit. The PSI was first mooted by President George W Bush in May but was not officially launched until September. |

$1 Bil+ in Iraqi Assets Found in Foreign Banks (Dec 21 2003 07:40 GMT) - U.S. authorities have identified more than a billion dollars in Iraqi assets in banks in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan and are pursuing hundreds of leads in the United States concerning possible illicit financial transactions with the former Iraqi government. Treasury, Internal Revenue Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have spent nine months poring over financial records recovered from the vault of the Central Bank of Iraq, including records they say show how Saddam Hussein's government diverted at least $1.8 billion from the United Nations' humanitarian oil-for-food program and moved some of that money to foreign banks or used it to buy weapons components Vic: |

Saddam directed terror in Iraq (Dec 21 2003 07:40 GMT) - Saddam Hussein was personally directing the postwar insurgency inside Iraq that has claimed the lives of more than 200 coalition troops, playing a far more active role than previously thought, American intelligence officers have concluded since his capture. He is believed to have been issuing regular instructions on targets and tactics through five trusted lieutenants. U.S. officials say he was in regular contact with five "enablers" — veterans of his feared security services drawn from his power base of Tikrit. |
