Public Service Announcement (Dec 21 2003 22:58 GMT) - After waiting a half-hour on the phone, I finally got through to a tech support specialist at Sprint and they tell me that I'm not alone in being unable to access the internet on my Treo 600. Apparently they're having a network problem nationwide, so if you are also getting the "network 130" error message, you'll just have to keep trying. Most interesting, though, is the specialist's assertion that the problem is bandwidth. He said so many people are trying to get online because it's a holiday weekend that it's overloading the network. |

Terror Alert Level High: Happy Holidays Everyone (Dec 21 2003 22:52 GMT) - So they won't say exactly why, and they won't say exactly what they're doing as a result of it, but the terror alert level has been raised to "high." Tom Ridge, chief Dept of Homeland Security dude, was on the tube saying absolutely nothing, over and over again. It was all very surreal. Like a chapter in a book... (called 1984). |

Be afraid of oranges (Dec 21 2003 22:52 GMT) - ! Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge today raised the nearly-meaningless "Homeland Security Advisory" level to "High," or orange, saying that there may be more indicators now of a terrorist attack than at any time since September 11. Jesse says the adminstration and its rhetorical friends will use this to take credit or avoid blame for any economic problems in December. Atrios says that Tom Ridge must hate America, because "much like Howard Dean (and every 5 year old with a modest level of intelligence), he doesn't think that capturing Saddam has made us any safer from terrorists. CONDITION ORANGE!!!" (Also, under an Atrios proposal, the new alert level would really be "Ernie", one level above "Bert" but not yet reaching "Elmo. |
