Rescue your teeth with Mexican dentistry (Dec 22 2003 02:10 GMT) - Amazing first-person story of a guy who couldn't afford the full set of caps his teeth needed and was looking at a lifetime of dentures, who became a medical tourist to Tijuana and got the work done for a fraction of the cost in Mexico. ... ... I mentally multiplied $715 by 28 and groaned. Either my teeth were about to become the most expensive thing I ever owned, or I was going to lose them and likely have to start wearing dentures at the age of 39... |

Does groupware imply groupthink? (Dec 22 2003 02:10 GMT) - Geoff Cohen asks, "Could we architect social software that fought groupthink? Or does it just make the gravitational attraction of consensus, even flawed consensus, ever so much more irresistible?" I think the key to avoiding unhealthy levels of groupthink has to do with designing spaces that consistently exert pull upon outsiders (or social hackers or community straddlers), so as to keep the air fresh. As long as they feel welcomed, outsiders are able to inject an essential dose of criticism into a group's deliberations, which will help steer it out of groupthink potholes. I think the blogosphere exhibits this kind of "outsider pull" much more than topic-focused forums. |

Another MT Location Plugin (Dec 22 2003 02:07 GMT) - I wrote an MT plugin for tagging posts with location, which I think is a bit easier to use than some of the other ones I have seen, especially for people who tend to alternate frequently between a few locations. With this approach, you just tag entries with location codes as keywords (e.g., "loc_berkeley," or "loc_b," whatever the user wants to call it) which are then mapped to a name ("Berkeley, CA") and geourl coordinates through a tab-delimited file. (I don't have any easy way of editing the file, being happy with emacs and scp, but it can be added if there seems enough interest. |

Jesus, Satan and computersJesus and ... (Dec 22 2003 02:03 GMT) - Jesus, Satan and computersJesus and the devil have an argument as to who is the better programmer after hours of arguing without no one caving in, they decided to hold a programming competition having God as a referee. After hours of coding the power goes off and right after the electricity is restored God announces that the contest is over. Satan is upset, "I have nothing, I lost it all when the power went out" Instead Jesus enters a commands and the screen shows a chorus of heavenly angels singing Christmas carols. God with a smile says " I knew the devil knows but only Jesus saves" |

For the most part, after you've been blogging for a bit, you can almost immediately tell what product the blog was created from; that is no different from any other blog system, no matter how much work was done on the templates. if you want a WYSIWYG solution for Radio have a look at Themetool, its another $40.00.. |
