Let me just pose this question (Dec 22 2003 15:08 GMT) - If Clintonian multilateralism was a better foreign policy, how come it took a "cowboy" and a gentleman (Blair) to: A) Liberate Iraq and capture a living Saddam Hussein for trial, B) Open up Iran for nuclear inspection, C) Get Libya to disarm itself and ask for the renewal of diplomatic ties with the United States, D) Get Ariel Sharon to unilaterally dismantle settlements and move Israeli settlers out of Palestinian areas, upon pain of gigantic aid covenants? It's ridiculous to argue that these developments are coincidental, not tied intrinsically to the Bush-Blair hard diplomacy. So don't bother writing that in the comments. The only question now is whether it's short-sighted to rely, in part, on fear. |

China to legislate private property ... (Dec 22 2003 15:04 GMT) - China to legislate private property China's parliament, the National People's Congress, is discussing a constitutional amandment which will protect private property. Private ownership is anathema to communism, and this move strongly signals that China is trying to bury Communism. The party, of course, will try to cling to its own power even after abandoning its ideology, creating an impossible contradiction for the long term. |

Broadway Joe Loves the Broads (Dec 22 2003 15:04 GMT) - A few things that shows Jets legend Joe Namath's liberated attitude about women: He wore pantyhose in a 1974 Beautymist commercial.
