Running 64-bit Linux on a G5 (Dec 22 2003 23:10 GMT) - Apple still haven't released a 64bit-clean Mac OS X but Linux distros have already such versions for the G5 available. Bas van de Wiel downloaded the 64bit Yellow Dog Linux beta and gave it a whirl. While YDL, along with Gentoo, still have their problems on 64bit, they are very close to offering a good solution for the enterprise, servers or simply for SETI cpu cycle-sucker users. |

The others fall into two sets - partial virtualization (vserver, BSD jail) and full virtual machines (S/390, VMWare). UML is a fully virtualized OS without having a full virtual machine. So, if you need a full OS, but don't need hardware emulation, then UML is the only game in town. |
