Carbonating at home (Dec 23 2003 08:59 GMT) - I just happened upon Carbonating at Home with Improvised Equipment and Soda Fountains. An excerpt: Carbonating tap water to make seltzer is easy, fast, and absurdly inexpensive with my improvised apparatus. All that is required is to place CO2 (carbon dioxide) gas in agitated contact with chilled water for a few seconds. In this essay, I'll show you how it is done with easy-to-find parts and common PET (polyethylene terephthalate, sometimes called PETE) soda bottles. |

California Cops Chip in After Toys Stolen (Dec 23 2003 08:58 GMT) - When someone stole $5,000 dollars worth of Christmas presents intended for kids at the Sacramento Children's Home last week, the toy drive's organizers were devastated. But that turned to delight Sunday when California Highway Patrol officers replaced the stolen gifts with two carloads full of presents, moving the drive's leader to tears. |

Bad mood day (Dec 23 2003 08:54 GMT) - Today I was to do my Christmas shopping. Today I was to finally close the doors of my old apartment. Today I was to drive home sweet home and meet the family for the holidays. Now I have to get a dentist appointment one day before Christmas Eve. That's going to be fun. |

Nasdaq Wants To Merge With The NY Stock Exchange (Dec 23 2003 08:52 GMT) - It really wasn't that long ago that the Nasdaq was king, and was even going around advertising how many cool companies were listing on their market rather than over at the more old fashioned New York Stock Exchange. Of course, just like everything that was booming in the boom years, things are changing, and reports are surfacing that the folks over at the Nasdaq have approached the New York Stock Exchange about a merger. Of course, things aren't all roses over at the NYSE, as they're still dealing with fallout from their executive compensation package to former chair Dick Grasso. Still, as the article points out, Wall Street firms would love such a merger since it would let them consolidate operations. |
