Teen Drug Use Survey Says... (Dec 23 2003 15:47 GMT) - How worthwhile is the "data" when it comes to kids and drug use? See today's press release from the Marijuana Policy Project, headlined "Teen Drug Surveys Contradict Each Other." An excerpt:Results from the 2003 Monitoring the Future survey of teen drug use, released today, show a trend directly opposite to that seen in the National PRIDE Survey, released in late August. The two annual youth surveys have been designated by Congress as measures of the success of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy's (ONDCP's) efforts to reduce teen drug use. |

Pretending Not to Notice (Dec 23 2003 15:46 GMT) - Yeah, I know you're all covered head to toe at the fitness club. But God how nothing is hidden in those skin-tight exercise clothes. It's not distracting in the least. Fortunately I don't look around much while I'm on the... |

You'd think they'd tell you these things, but... (Dec 23 2003 15:46 GMT) - I can finally apply for my British citizenship. I called the British Consulate in San Francisco., after hearing rumors last year of changes in the laws. They verified that there was indeed legislation in the works -- the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act of 2002 -- but that things were still uncertain. Basically, my having a British mother -- as opposed to a British father -- didn't give me the right to British citizenship. |

The Churches of Doubt? (Dec 23 2003 15:45 GMT) - Following up on Will Shetterly and Philocrites, I want to put in a vote for the Churches of Doubt as a replacement name for Unitarian Universalist. Probably not for good reasons, mind you. Frankly, I like the thought that it would slightly trouble people. But immediately the old stand-by question of "So what do you guys believe?" would fall by the wayside. |

The Apple is Oranger (Dec 23 2003 15:43 GMT) - Is Crayola's Bittersweet a deeper shade of Orange? Gothamist wonders this because the Post says New York's increased security measure in a time of orange means NYC is at Orange+. But not even Super Orange can deter NYers from getting their Christmas shopping done: One shopper tells the Daily News, "I just healed from an aneurysm, so nothing is going to stop me. I'm not going to live in fear. |

Italos unleash holiday merriment (Dec 23 2003 15:43 GMT) - Weekly: 'Natale' pix inject humor into Yuletide Italians seem to laugh at themselves best at yuletide -- at least that's what Aurelio De Laurentiis' annual holiday satire has so eloquently showed in box office returns for more than 20 years. |
