Eating Contests (Dec 23 2003 23:26 GMT) - Recently I have become slightly obsessed with eating contests. Not like the hot dog contest that that Kobayashi guy wins every year, but the challenges at different restaurants, like the place in Texas where you win a T-shirt and free meal if you eat the 72 oz. steak dinner (including baked potato, salad, shrimp cocktail and dinner roll). I have never been in one of these contests but it seems like I would do decently well. I think my ideal contest foods would either be pizza or those burritos that you get at Qdoba (or Chipotle, I think it is the same idea). |

Lighter than Air (Dec 23 2003 23:25 GMT) - I arrived at LA yesterday at 11AM and California threw a party. Lots of rattling and rolling. Drive to San Francisco was rush hour the entire distance between the two cities. I cancelled my plans to drive 101 tomorrow due to the quake -- so it's the I5 corridor and LA--again. Yesterday I also delivered my mineral collection to a very, very nice lady, and today the contents of the storage unit. |

REMODELING - BEAR WITH ME! (Dec 23 2003 23:25 GMT) - If things look a little weird here today, I'm in the process of trying to force Radio Userland into doing a few things it doesn't want to do -- primarily so that folks who use news aggregrators and fellow bloggers who want to run doublethink headlines as a newsfeed will get the feed in a better format than Userland provides. If that makes no sense, or you don't care about RSS, then ignore what I just said, and just bear with me 'til I've got it figured out.A truckload of news (and the usual ranting) will be up tonight. |

Zap! (Dec 23 2003 23:25 GMT) - The one thing I hate about this time of the year is when it's dry outside and you're full of static electricity. Touch anything and “ZAP” and perhaps worst of all, your clothes stick to you and look like crap. Anyone have any ideas on ... |

Welcome to hell (Dec 23 2003 23:22 GMT) - I'm a little bit confused. And a little bit panicked. The idea of making "pre-emptive" arrests is frightening and, frankly, makes me want to vomit. Arresting someone because they might do something makes the kind of sense that doesn't. Isn't that sort of the basis for the entire judicial system here in the U. |

John Perry Barlow has a blog (Dec 23 2003 23:21 GMT) - Grateful Dead lyricist, EFF co-founder and general cyberspace theorist John Perry Barlow (he also calls himself a "cognitive dissident") has, at long last, started a weblog: BarlowFriendz. ... Now if we can just get Robert Hunter, who's been keeping a great online journal - on and off - since 1996, an RSS feed and Dead Heads in the blogosphere will be all set (at least till Bob Weir starts a blog).
