Christmas Eve (Dec 24 2003 23:59 GMT) - With kids of three and five (and another on the way), this shapes up to be a special Christmas for our family. Our daughter has been saying for weeks that she couldn't wait for Christmas to arrive. The day has finally arrived and with it, much family, which, after all, is what makes Christmas so very special. |

Anemic domains (Dec 24 2003 23:56 GMT) - Martin Fowler wonders why anemic domain models are so common: The basic symptom of an Anemic Domain Model is that at first blush it looks like the real thing. There are objects, many named after the nouns in the domain space, and these objects are connected with the rich relationships and structure that true domain models have. The catch comes when you look at the behavior, and you realize that there is very little behavior on these objects. Indeed often these models come with design rules that say that you are not to put any domain logic in the the domain objects. |

Interactive Xmas Thingies (Dec 24 2003 23:51 GMT) - Rocket have a Xmas game that pretty well mirrors the reality of surviving the office break-up party. Amuse yourself by shaking the crap out of the occupants of the snowglobe. Hear them scream as they thump off the walls of their glass domed prison. And my favourite... prepare to be sucked into the addictive joy of Shuffle the Penguin.... |

Movie: The Lord of the ... (Dec 24 2003 23:50 GMT) - Movie: The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King Just returned from a late-morning matinee showing of Return of the King, the third in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I enjoyed it, and the seige of Minas Tirith is the spectacle it was cracked up to be. The postscript, which in the book feels important, drags on a bit in the movie. I wonder if there's any chance that my son or daughter will read the books before seeing the films. |
