The magic number of networking: 154 [Chris Worth] (Dec 24 2003 11:59 GMT) - The Xmas/New Year issue of New Scientist has an interesting piece on the size of social networks. Apparently, many social networks and groupings are defined by the participating animal's brain size. Small monkeys have about 8-16 fellow creatures with whom they share close social bonds. Gorillas break the 30 mark. (It also applies to cetaceans and birds if you adjust for relative brain size. |

german internet provider telekom... (Dec 24 2003 11:54 GMT) - german internet provider telekom offers a device called t-sinus 154 for wireless access via dsl. i got one of these thingies for my parents and the wireless connection is ok. what i consider more interesting, though, is the built-in printserver. because my efforts to connect a newly bought usb printer to a vintage non-usb powerbook via an appropriate pcmcia card failed shamefully (well, at least i found out that you surely can use serial printers with os x), i considered this as a welcome opportunity... |
