When he took over leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, he automatically became the Prime Minister because of the absolute majority this party holds in the parliament. A lot of Cannucks aren't happy about how this change at the top was decided by members of the liberal party only. Personally I think it makes sense to have the elected officials select a Prime Minister rather than have one election for parliament and one for the big cheese, but like I mentioned, some people are miffed.
