Our Narrow Education (Dec 26 2003 03:58 GMT) - One of the things I have been thinking about lately has been that the education that I have undergone has been very restricting. There are whole worlds that have been left completely untouched. These are the worlds of history, philosophy, psychology, biology, economics, and the like. Even as I have become a specialist in the areas of technology that I work in, I feel at times that as the years go on, one needs to be more a generalist, putting together a latticework of mental models, as Mohnish Pabrai so eloquently paraphrased Charlie Munger. So, I picked up a book by Will Durant on "The Greatest Ideas and Minds of All Time" (was recommended by Chetan Parikh) and started reading it. |

Another attack on Pakistanti President ... (Dec 26 2003 03:57 GMT) - Another attack on Pakistanti President Pakistani president Musharraf was very close to being killed by terroritst suicide bombers, but he is even more determinated to fight terrirism after the attack that killed and wounded at least 14 people and wounded many more. The failed attack obviously means that Musharraf knows it is him or them. Al Qaeda and local extremists know the importance of Musharraf in the war on terror. |

http://archive. scripting. com/2003/12/25#When:10: (Dec 26 2003 03:48 GMT) - The RSS-User mail list is a miracle. It's the first time, to my knowledge, that there's been a discussion of RSS that wasn't dominated by developers. All I'm doing so far is approving messages, I just posted a couple at the start. I won't let through messages that are developer issues or ad hominems. Should have done this a long time ago. |
