NYC restaurant sues Zagat's for reviews of their bad foo (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - "God knows 'you don't go for the food' at this East Village Asian-Eclectic - rather you go to 'gawk' at the 'hilarious' 'cross-dressing' staff who 'tell dirty jokes,' perform 'impromptu floor shows' and offer 'lap dances for dessert,' " the review says. I've eaten there. The reviews are true. |

The top word of the year is ... (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - Previous top words include 2000's "chad" (from the hanging squares of paper on Florida presidential ballots), 2001's "Ground Zero" (the site where the World Trade Center collapsed) and 2002's "misunderestimate" (a presidential slip of the tongue that became frequent comedy fodder). I vote "otter" |

New Years traditions (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - "Happy New Year!" That greeting will be said and heard for at least the first couple of weeks as a new year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern America was not always January 1. |

Hangover remedies (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - The best strategy, of course, is to drink in moderation. Studies show — yes, scientists actually have researched this in a lab — that a 130-pound person will get a hangover if he or she binges on more than three to five drinks. For someone weighing 180 pounds, the threshold is five to six drinks. |

The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - To science we owe dramatic changes in our smug self-image. Astronomy taught us that our earth isn’t the center of the universe but merely one of billions of heavenly bodies. From biology we learned that we weren’t specially created by God but evolved along with millions of other species. Now archaeology is demolishing another sacred belief: that human history over the past million years has been a long tale of progress. |

Rumsfeld Backed Saddam Even After Chemical Attacks (Dec 26 2003 18:40 GMT) - Fresh controversy about Donald Rumsfeld's personal dealings with Saddam Hussein was provoked yesterday by new documents that reveal he went to Iraq to show America's support for the regime despite its use of chemical weapons. The formerly secret documents reveal the Defence Secretary travelled to Baghdad 20 years ago to assure Iraq that America's condemnation of its use of chemical weapons was made "strictly" in principle. |

Bush Sucks! (Dec 26 2003 18:34 GMT) - According to some of my family members, Bush sucks and all that because of the way he speaks. and because he only repeats the stuff of his political advisors. So they have been lectured by me not to judge a man by his appearance, that Bush is a President with some of the more memorable speeches and that people should make up whether they hate the Bush person or American policies. Not going to do much good, though. For some reason people are convinced America is about the rich trying to get richer while making the poor more poor. |
