Building norms together with the technologies (Dec 27 2003 02:58 GMT) - danah has a good rant in response to Cory's thoughts on technologists that create technologies which cause awkward social situations.danah boydSo, in fleshing out Cory's call to technologists, i'd ask all technologists to consider not only what problems a technology solves, but what new ones could emerge. Start thinking like a writer or an abuser of technology. Imagine how people could misuse a technology to hurt others. Consider who gains and loses power from such technology. |

The power of the Ring could help spark record movie business for this ... (Dec 27 2003 02:55 GMT) - The power of the Ring could help spark record movie business for this holiday weekend but may not be enough to scale the lofty heights of 2002's year-end box office tally. In its ninth day of release on December 25, 2003, 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' grossed $15 million in North American ticket sales, surpassing the generally strong Christmas Day openings of four other films, according to studio estimates issued on Friday. Viggo Mortensen portrays Aragorn in a scene from the film, in this undated publicity photograph. |

Re: ThemeTool (Dec 27 2003 02:54 GMT) - I've used Themetool and I actually prefer just coding the html using frontpage and the notepad...possibly alot harder way of doing themes but dreamweaver and theme tool just didn't work right for me. I'm not sure what programs Mac users have available for html editing but if you know a little about html then you are on your way..dreamweaver is general is a complicated program in my opinion and I've been doing websites for awhile now. There are also alot of themes available that already have the radio macros built in. |

RFID proposed as solution to Mad Cow scare (Dec 27 2003 02:54 GMT) - The European Research Center of Forrester Research in Amsterdam issued a press release that recommends the use of RFID technology to trace the origins of food, control the food chain, solve food scares quickly, and prevent bioterrorism. (Via RFID Privacy Happenings) Traditional tracing technologies, such as ear tags in animals and bar codes on packaged meat, provide data for one or two steps in the food business but don't connect up the entire food supply chain. To achieve multistep, forward-and-backward food traceability, Forrester advises firms to turn to vendors that offer RFID tags to link unprocessed agricultural products to retail-environment-ready consumer products. |
