- There's a million reasons why war is a horrible, terrible evil and every one of them is correct. However, there are three facts about war that are impossible to deny. - I'm a big fan of Bill Nye "the Science Guy" and his eponymous children's TV show - I loved watching the humor and the sass and the good hard science. Bill Nye The Science Guy, with features like "Consider the Following" and "Way Cool Scientist", ran for five seasons starting in 1993 and there haven't been any new ones for quite a while. (And if you want to buy it on DVD, it's expensive, as Disney seems to have a monopoly!) That's why I was so excited when I saw, on the Skeptic Society website, that Michael Shermer had participated in filming an episode of a new Bill Nye show! Eyes of Nye, according to this account, is aimed at adults and delves into current issues in science. |

- Well, maybe it's for the best I didn't depend on a successful Mars landing as a gift to my wife - tho it's far too early to give up hope yet. The British Beagle 2 spacecraft was supposed to touch down on Mars (and what a touchdown it was to be!) at 8:54 PM Central Time Christmas Eve, but so far the American Mars Odyssey orbiter already on station failed to pick up Beagle's brief "I'm down OK" music riff. Later today on Christmas there's supposed to be complete communications established by Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory during the next communications window with the spacecraft - everybody keep your fingers crossed and follow the news postings at Beagle Control. |
