My Czech friends try to ... (Dec 27 2003 15:59 GMT) - My Czech friends try to teach me some of the Czech idioms, slang and sayings, which of course means that I have to explain the American idioms to them. This site will hopefully help me do that. I amazed at how hard it is for me to explain some of them. |

MSI Mega Stick 1 (Dec 27 2003 15:58 GMT) - Definitely one of the best Christmas presents I have gotten recently: my employer (ISM) gave us all a MSI Mega Stick 1. Some would call it a 5-in-1 memory stick utility but in practice it's mostly a very decent MP3 player which works on a single AAA and stores 128Mb on its flash memory. Files can be transferred through USB (the player plauys MP3 and WMA formats, but you can store any data and use the stick as a mobile storage device). Comes with an equalizer and LCD screen with song titles (ID3 tags supported). |

Zero Tolerance for Zero Tolerance (Dec 27 2003 15:58 GMT) - I haven’t written about this topic for a bit, even though I have noticed a few other incidents in recent days that would qualify for condemnation. I’ve really said all I think I can say on the topic: I think “zero tolerance” policies that automatically require suspension or expulsion of a student are wrong, especially when they are applied to such things as a drawing or a fictional story or journal entry. These things should be entitled to free speech protection. I’m not saying that a school administrator shouldn’t look further into a situation when it is learned that a student is writing stories about teachers being killed, but that’s different than simply expelling them. |
