T-Mobile to (finally) start carrying the Treo 600? (Dec 29 2003 01:59 GMT) - It has been rumored for quite some time, but it appears that T-Mobile will finally start selling the Treo 600 in the US within the next few weeks. At least that is what a sales rep at a T-Mobile store told me over the weekend. What the heck is taking them so long? Sprint and AT&T have been selling them as quickly as they can stock them. One AT&T sales rep didn't think that the Treo 600 would be back in stock for weeks. |

Merry Christmas and Happy New ... (Dec 29 2003 01:56 GMT) - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year This is slightly late but still funny... 'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house,Every creature was hurtin', even the mouse. The toys were all broken, their batteries dead;Santa passed out, with some ice on his head. Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, While upstairs the family continued to snore. |

Robot Quickie Mart (Dec 29 2003 01:56 GMT) - I, for one, welcome our new quickie-mart robot overlords! (click for larger image) This SmartMart sits at the corner of Park and White Station in Memphis. It's a fully automated convenience store. You drive up, tell it what you want to buy, and it spits it out. (click for larger image) You can buy all kinds of quickie-mart staples, including beer and cigarettes, though vices require you to submit your photo ID for scanning into the Global SmartMart Database, so I opted out and just got a coke and some gum. |

Missionaries follow soldiers, 21st century ... (Dec 29 2003 01:53 GMT) - Missionaries follow soldiers, 21st century style American Christian missionaries see the occupation of Iraq as a great opportunity for preaching to Iraqi muslims, trying to use the remaining months before the Iraqis take over to get as much done as possible. Bush may dislike it, be ambiguous about it or even like it, but there is little he can do to stop private charities from bringing Bibles and tracts into Iraq. Jon Hanna, an evangelical from Ohio who has recently returned from Iraq, applied for a new passport to travel there, describing himself as a humanitarian worker. "I was worried the US authorities might try to stop us, might be worried we were going to start a riot with our Bibles." In Baghdad last month Mr Hanna met two other American missionary teams. |

The Joy of Knitting (Dec 29 2003 01:49 GMT) - In a bid to keep the sprogs from getting frostbite during recess in the winter months, Judith Symonds, an instructional aide at Seth Boyden Elementary School in Maplewood, New Jersey, sat the little monsters on the floor in a hallway and taught them how to knit. The knitting program was so popular that the sessions extended the rest of the year and after school classes were started for parents. Nice to see the old crafts aren't dying out — via Making Light |
